The Black Willow Ranch is home to abundant native wildlife including elk, mule dear, black bear, mountain lion, bobcat, turkey, and migratory waterfowl. The great variety of terrain including the river bottom and surrounding ridges provides wildlife with ample year-round cover. While considerable investments in habitat reclamation and water development ensure there is always access to water and abundant forage.
This impact of proper habit and wildlife management can be seen in the health of the resident elk herd which typically numbers around 800 head. Bulls in the 320-360 inch class are common and 400 inch bulls are not unheard of.
